About the Event

Laurence Cotton, author, historian, and filmmaker; originator of the PBS film, Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America, a co-production of WNED Buffalo/Toronto and Florentine Films/Hott Productions, Inc. will speak about his research on Olmsted, and serving as the consulting producer of this 2014 film, which will be screened as part of the event. Raised in Boston—the home of Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace park system—Mr. Cotton brings a long history of park, green space and trail planning to his adopted city of Portland, Oregon. Since first working on the PBS film in 2008, he has continued studying Olmsted archives, interviewing scholars, and visiting and documenting as many Olmsted-designed parks and landscapes as humanly possible.
